Starting Over - Week 1!!

Hey everyone!

Okay, I officially started doing Weight Watchers AGAIN and exercising this past Monday.  I thought I would also make sure I journal everything over here for those of you who want to do it with me again.  If you would like to read my entire journey from before when I lost close to 50 pounds (10 was when I had H1N1 so I don't really count it) just go to the beginning of this blog.

Weight:  147.6  (I've gained 10 pounds since my last post!)

Exercise:

Monday:  Ran 1 mile at 5.0, walked 1/4 of a mile, Ran another mile at 5.0, walked another 1/4 mile, upper body workout with weights.  100 abdominal exercises.
Total: 2 miles ran, 1/2 mile walked

Tuesday:  Ran 2 miles at 5.0 - 6.1, Walked 1 mile

Wednesday:  6 miles on the bike going 90 rpm's, elip. machine 10 minutes (1 mile)

Today:  Ran 3 miles in 31 minutes at 5.5 - 6.2!!  So excited to be running again!  Walked 1 mile.  Lifted weights for upper body.

So, those of you who have been following me know that I have severe Plantar Fasciitis, which is REALLY painful!  I have gone to therapy, have custom insols, etc.  I just have to stretch really good.  I also just purchased these AWESOME socks that I sleep in at night called Strassburg Socks.  Here's a pic of how silly they look.  I don't know why but when I wear them I get the Pippy Longstocking song stuck in my head!  LOL!

I highly recommend this sock to anyone who is having problems with tight calves, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, etc.  I noticed the difference in one day!!  I am going to continue to wear them every night.

GOAL:  Run a 10K on the 4th of July in Utah.  It will be my 3rd year in a row if I am up to it!  Anyone in Utah want to do it with me??

  2. Great Job!!! I have been on the weight loss journey for years, but really got serious 7 1/2 wks ago. I started a very strict 800 cal diet (dr supervised). I haven't started really working out much, but am getting ready to start that this next week. I am won't be running distances yet, I will be lucky to run a few minutes. My low cal portion of the diet will be over Tuesday and will be able to eat again. You are such an inspiration - crafting, being a mother, friend and an all around great person. I am looking forward to joining you in this journey and together we will both be big losers! LOL!! I love pink too!!!!

  3. I am so sorry for your painful plantar faciitis. It is awful! I've had it before and the only thing that got me over it was wearing Birkenstocks. I know that sounds stupid, but I wore them for almost a year the pain left. I did all the stretching though and I do think that helped a lot.

I started WW online and I'm in the my second week. I lost almost 4 pounds the first week. I have done well this week again with the food portion but I am now taking some steroids and normally weight loss and that medication do not go together, so we shall see. Robyn, I'd appreciate your prayers. I have a heart cath tomorrow as my stress test was abnormal. I am scared to death. I am fearful of the outcome and even the procedure. I leave for the hospital about 5 in the morning tomorrow. Please pray for strength and relaxation for me. I know I am a type A person and that certainly doesn't help. Thanks

  4. I have been seriously struggling with weight loss lately. I have started and restarted Weight Watchers about 50 times in the last two months. I'm in. I've been looking for someone to do it with. You're my person. :) My goal is to lose 15 pounds.

  5. I too have plantar fasclitis but also another 80+ lbs. I think I will try a pair of these socks. Thanks and good to know they work.
I have seen the WW commercials and tried it several years ago but the meeting was like walking in on a club to which you didn't belong. I felt like a 7th wheel and stopped going after a few meetings.
I cannot start to exercise yet as I have a knee scope on 6/6 for a torn meniscus. I am sure the Dr. would appreciate me losing some weight to keep this knee in better shape.
Maybe I will try the online version and come over here and join you and your followers for encouragement and accountability. Great job.

  6. You are such an inspiration, Robyn! I have had severe PF since October and wear a night splint every night. I've been on WW since January and have actually gained about 10 lbs. because I can't exercise...the pain is just too much. Any words of wisdom?

  7. That is so painful. I had that and ended up having surgery for it about 5 years ago. Best decision I ever made. Haven't had any problems with that foot since. Hope you find some relief very soon. Great admiration for your determination.

  8. May look silly, but if it helps and works, so WORTH it! :-) Glad it's helping you :-) I fell off the wagon for about 8 weeks. 5 weeks on vacation and a week before and after (or more) it's my 2nd week back. I'm doing...ok. Need to get my weight loss mojo back and get in the mindframe again, still struggling some. I've only lost 11 pds this year, was at 14 lost but gained some back :-( My first time doing WW at this point I had lost about 25 or so pounds so I feel like i'm really not doing well which can get discouraging for me. Glad you starting again and I definitely plan to follow you :-) Sorry this got so long-Sam :-)

  12. I'm all for going long this journey with you, I started a workout program and count calorie back in middle of January and loved how it has changed my way of eating and weight lose, right now I have lose 32 pounds and still want to lose another 40 or so to be in a healthy weight so glad more people are trying to get healthy so good luck and can't wait to see more what you are doing and going through. I know it can be hard but I just tell myself this is for me and only me so it can make me a happier person.

  13. Robyn,
My friend Kim was just diagnosed with this and it's severe. He said we are not messing around with orthopedics or anything. We need to do the surgery, you will be in a walking cast and back to exercising in less than 6 weeks. But a walking cast right away. You might want to consider that. I'm with you on the weight loss! We can do this! :)

  14. Good luck! i don't know how you can just start running a mile (I can't make it around the block). Weight watchers does work for me though and now I'm in maintenance. I'd still like to firm up (maybe lose a couple more pounds since winter is gone)

  15. Are you running in the Freedom Festival? I'd love to, but I think I have to work July 4th. My goal is to run a 10k and half marathon this year.

  16. Great Job Robyn. I also suffer from PF, for about 2 yrs now. I have a closet full of shoes that I cant wear. I stick to my Skechers Shape Ups and Easy Spirit flip flops. I've gained 20lbs in those 2 yrs. I finally feel like my PF is under control as long as I stick to my 'good' shoes. So I guess I need to follow your lead and head back tto the gym.

  21. OH Robyn - I am so glad you posted this about these socks. I was told YESTERDAY that I have shin splints, possibly a stress fracture in my right leg. I am suppose to have a MRI next week. I honestly don't know how it happened, but the pain started about a month ago. I am going to give these socks a try! Thanks for the information! :)

  23. Many years ago, I too had PF....I tried everything for relief, cortizone shots, inserts, PT and was almost to surgery...my girlfriend insisted I buy a pair of SAS (San Antonio Shoe) shoes...boy, did that do the trick. I wore the really cushioned ones for awhile and now I can wear anything I want....if my feet start hurting, just a couple days in my SAS and I'm good to go again. They are about $120 a pair, but it's the best $$ I ever spent....think about it!

  24. I have had several bouts of PF. Getting cortisone shots in your feet are really painful but it seems to help. Until it happens all over again. Standing on my feet all day at work doesn't help, Especially, on tile or cement. Where do you get the socks? I know that my foot drops under the sheets while sleeping on my back. I wonder what we do differently to cause the plantar fascia to get irritated?

  25. Oh brother, I LOVE Weight Watchers, but don't love that I have to do it. I started AGAIN a year ago January, and promised myself that I my hard work would not be wasted. Stress/laziness/whatever happened in July and I didn't get back on track until this mid-January. I've now RE-LOST what I re-gained in the fall and winter and have about 10 more lbs that I'd like to lose. Tomorrow is my weigh-in day. It will be at the end of a not so careful week, so I'm anxious to see how it goes. I'm feeling pretty determined to get to my goal this time. Hopefully when I get there I can stay there. Here's wishing us all luck!

  28. Robyn,
I am so glad you are doing this again. You originally inspired me to start WW, but then you quit posting. I was disappointed, since I was hoping to have you be my inspiration. Now we can both work at this together. Looks like we will have lots of company. Good Luck to all.

  29. I would love to train for a 5K and then a marathon. I used to run all of the time and it really empowered me. It really helps boost confidence and self esteem. Somehow I stopped and got busy with other things. I'm now inspired to start again seriously this time because I know others are in my boat. Good luck with everything.

  32. Yay! Good for you! I am with you all the way! Memorial weekend I started working out on a regular basis. I don't hate the way I look , I am just unhappy with it. I had a baby Dec. of 2010 and haven't gotten back in shape. I don't want it to get out of hand or get so far that it's impossible to get back to where I feel comfortable with myself. I have started walking and doing exercises like Zumba(which is so much fun!)I wish you and everyone going through a similar journey the very best! Thanks for the inspiration!

  33. Hey, I just wanted to know if the shoe inserts helped, because I am going to the doctor on Monday to be fitted. I'm not to excited about paying $300.00 for them aghh. I would rather spend the money on my addiction ( scrapbooking). The other thing I would like to ask you is what kind of running shoes do you wear and do you think that maybe the shoe companys could put out a shoe that prevents PF ?

  34. Hi Robyn, how's the weight lose going? I want to lose a few pounds too (13 pounds to be exact). I've started eating clean again and have been doing my Beachbody workouts. My husband just gave me a great incentive to lose the pounds. When (not if) I get my weight down to 132 pounds he is going to buy me a Cricut Imagine Machine!!!! I am so excited and motivated. Do you have any incentives to keep you motivated?

  37. http://orthopedics.about.com/od/footankle/i/shockwave.htm It is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy. I had this done about 2 years ago. I am so glad I did it. I limped for about 1 1/2 & finally went to my podiatrist who referred me to a sports medicine doctor in Palo Alto, CA. They did it in their office & it was about 3 treatments. Best thing I ever had done. Now I just have to lose about 80#'s.

  38. Hi Robin! I was reading your blog here because I just had a baby in Feb and I need to get back into running and exercise. I started out at 140 lbs I am 5'3 and now I am a way up in the 168 YIKES! FAT FAT! I like to do weight watchers on my own but have no idea how many points I can use. I am a SAHM breatsfeeding mom. I used to be a soldier in the USArmy so running and exercise is been part of my life but....3 kids later, with very little sleep or time has done a number on me. I vfeel terrible when I look in the mirrow I was always in great shape. Anyhow I don't want to bore you but do you know how can I follow the points for weight watchers without having to join? Right now paying for private school I really don't have the extra $ for that. Thank you for the inspiration to lace up my running shoes and diust my jogger stroller, now I need to get the diet thing down. I have done the frozen meals from WW because they are easy and convinient for me as my time is so limited but I don't know how many points I can use. My big problem is sweets I love sugar! Thank you and have a great day! God Bless you!
